This is a leadership role for a 3D Art Director, defining and elevating the visual future of our platform. This position is responsible for setting the artistic vision, standards, and guidelines for how millions of users and creators play, create, and connect immersively.

You will be the steward of the platform's core 3D aesthetic, balancing the need for world-class fidelity with accessibility, scale, and performance for a global, diverse community. Your influence will shape not only internal projects but also the tools and resources available to our entire ecosystem of creators, and will manifest in our external marketing.

You Will:

  • Define the overarching 3D art vision and principles for the platform, ensuring a cohesive, inspiring, and technically robust aesthetic across all internal content, marketing assets, and core platform features.
  • Translate high-level product and business objectives into long-term 3D art strategies and roadmap initiatives, guiding the platform's visual evolution years into the future.
  • Drive 3D art direction oversight, providing decisive strategic direction for major art initiatives, ensuring alignment with the company vision, and mentor and direct other 3D artists who manage specific domain execution (e.g., avatar item art, environment art).
  • Drive innovation by staying ahead of trends in real-time rendering, material pipelines, geometric modeling, and Generative AI tools, advocating for new technologies that will empower our 3D art team and our creator community.
  • Collaborate with product, design, and creative leadership to ensure the artistic direction enhances the user and creator experience and maintains a high bar for inspiring emotional and visual storytelling.
  • Collaborate with technical art and engineering leadership to establish world-class, efficient 3D art pipelines that support scale and complexity while maintaining high performance across all surfaces.
  • Provide clear, decisive, and constructive artistic feedback to internal teams and external partners, maintaining an uncompromising standard of craft and polish.
  • Lead, mentor, and grow a world-class team of 3D Artists, fostering a culture of creative risk-taking, accountability, and professional growth.
  • Manage project schedules, resources, and vendor relationships to ensure the 3D art team delivers on ambitious goals within scope, on time, and within budget.

You Have:

  • 10+ years of professional experience in 3D Art and creative leadership within a world-class interactive media, entertainment, or gaming studio/platform.
  • Expertise in all core aspects of 3D art production: modeling (hard surface and organic), texturing/shading (PBR workflows), rigging, lighting, and real-time rendering.
  • A world-class portfolio showcasing the ability to define, manage, and deliver an inspiring, cohesive, high-quality visual style at massive scale across multiple projects.
  • Proficiency with industry-standard 3D software (e.g., Maya, Blender, ZBrush, Substance Suite) and experience working within major game engine/platform environments.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate complex creative and technical concepts to both artists and non-creative stakeholders.

For roles that are based at our headquarters in San Mateo, CA: The starting base pay for this position is as shown below. The actual base pay is dependent upon a variety of job-related factors such as professional background, training, work experience, location, business needs and market demand. Therefore, in some circumstances, the actual salary could fall outside of this expected range. This pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. All full-time employees are also eligible for equity compensation and for benefits as described on this page .

Annual Salary Range

$292,740—$342,100 USD

Roles that are based in an office are onsite Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with optional presence on Monday and Friday (unless otherwise noted).
